Hey Y’All,
my name is Lauren.

Lauren Shimer, LPC

I am so happy you’re here.

I know how tough it can be to take the leap and start therapy or return to therapy. It can feel challenging to find a good fit. My hope is that you feel truly understood and known.

Having a space to reflect, process, and gain insight can be so transformative and healing. Whether you’re hoping to process trauma, existential anxieties, relationship pain or daily life stressors, I hope to make space for you.

I enjoy working closely with individuals impacted by trauma, specifically relationships and traumatic events.

So much of how we function in life can be determined by our relationships. I enjoy using EMDR to help process all types of traumas.

Additionally, my therapy style is trauma-informed, focused, and kind. I take a directive approach using attachment, existential, and psychodynamic theory. In short, I believe we are relational humans impacted by our connection to others, we are all managing existential fears, and understanding our past is important!

I am trained in EMDR, DBT, Brainspotting, and “Religious Trauma, Spiritual Abuse, and Cult Recovery.” I have a BA in Communications and Journalism from the University of Arkansas (Woo Pig!) and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University. I hold an LPC license in both TX and CO.

Lastly, the fun stuff…

I love reality tv, listening to podcasts (I’ll always take suggestions), reading trash romance books and yoga! I am biased to golden retrievers and have decided I’ll never live without one.

One of my most important values is laughter, I think we all need to laugh more! I try to prioritize going to comedy shows and laughing with my friends.

I also have a special interest in working with people impacted by religious trauma, spiritual abuse or indoctrination.

It can be so disorienting to experience a deconstruction or change in a spiritual identity, it can severely shift your world view and sense of self. This experience can bring up so much anxiety and existential confusion, if this your story I would love to provide you the space to process and make sense of your experience
