Hi, My Name is Liana
(rhymes with banana)
Liana Cox, M.Ed., LPC
I’m so happy you’re here. My work has evolved from my own experiences with anxiety, chronic pain, and living in a larger body in a world that demands I be small (both physically and emotionally).
I’ve come to learn that the gift of living in a human body is its resilience and dedication to keeping us alive and safe. Consequently, the burden of living in a human body is its resilience and dedication to keeping us alive and safe.
Our bodies do their best to keep us alive and moving…
…but often the systems tasked with this job become primed to respond to events in the present as if they are hurtful or scary events from our past. It’s likely these thoughts and impulses worked when you were younger, when you were in a difficult relationship, or when you experienced a major loss, but they aren’t working anymore. In fact, they might be making you feel worse.
When I’m not in my therapy chair you can find me kayaking, hiking, reading a fiction book, or dreaming about my next trip to Far West Texas.
To address these issues, I primarily focus on nervous system regulation and care for your body. I am a certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and trained in Pain Reprocessing Therapy. Both of these interventions work to get you out of a loop of needing to control your body in order to fit in, feel safe, or feel valuable. Maybe you’ve cycled through an on again off again relationship with dieting, fitness, binging and/or restricting. Maybe your body is always on alert, using fear to motivate movement towards safety, putting you in a cycle that triggers physical pain. Or maybe it’s both.
Together, we will create a more balanced view of your body and retrain your brain to move through the world from a place of safety rather than fear. While not every situation is safe for every body, I firmly believe we can learn to disengage with the fear that keeps us from moving with more fluidity and ease.
